7 Card Stud Hi Lo Rules

The mechanics of 7 Card Stud Hi Lo are similar to 7 Card Stud. Each player posts an ante before being dealt two cards face down and one face up. The player holding the lowest –ranking exposed card is required to make the bring-in bet, to start the action.

Once that round of betting is complete, players receive three more cards and one final card which is dealt face down. Again, there’s a round of betting after each card is dealt. Most games are fixed-limit or spread-limit games, in which the cost of bets and raises usually doubles with the fifth card called ‘Fifth Street’

Unlike 7 Card Stud, no double bet may be made if a pair appears on Fourth Street. The best five-card high hand and the best five-card qualifying low hand – to qualify a low hand must contain five unpaired cards with a rank of 8 or lower – split the pot.
