WSOP 2007: Update – Events 10-16

Since my last news entry a full seven WSOP tournaments have concluded, with some fascinating results.

William Durkee V captured Event #10, the $2,000 No-Limit Hold’em tournament, which had 1,532 runners contributing to a $575,774 first prize. Next up Chris Reslock beat Phil Ivey heads-up to win Event #11, the $5,000 Seven-Card Stud Championship, preventing Ivey from winning his sixth WSOP bracelet.

Event #12, the $1,500 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em tournament went to Jason Warner, from Canada, who beat David Zeitlin heads-up to win the $481,698 first prize.

Event #13 saw probably the most exciting final table of the World Series this year, with Allen Cunnigham heading off a sterling challenge from Jeffrey Lisandro to collect his fifth WSOP title in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em Championship. The two of them had had to battle hard to see off fellow pros Humberto Brenes, Jason Lester and Gavin Griffin amongst others on their final table. Cunningham won $487,287 to go with the bracelet.

Event #14 was the $1,500 Seven-Card Stud tournament, and despite the presence of Barry Greenstein and Greg Raymer alongside him on the final table, it was the little known Michael Keiner who held off Nesbitt Coburn in the heads-up battle to collect the $146,987 first prize.

Event #15, the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em tournament was the second biggest tournament of this year’s WSOP, with 2,628 players competing for the bracelet. The size of the event made Phil Hellmuth’s record 11th WSOP bracelet all the more extraordinary, and we shall look at this win in more detail in another article. He won $637,254 to go with it.

Last but not least James Richburg wrapped up the $2,500 H.O.R.S.E tournament yesterday, taking down $238,881 in the process.
