J.C. Tran wins WPT player of the year title

Over the last six months J.C. Tran has gone on the kind of run that most pro players will not achieve in a lifetime; a $670,000 win at the World Championship of Online Poker, three six-figure wins in WPT preliminary tournaments, three WPT final tables and a WPT main-event win since October 2006 netted him over $3.6 million, and will go down as one of the great runs in tournament poker history.

In 2007 alone Tran finished sixth in the WPT Gold Strike World Poker Open, second in the WPT La Poker Classic (for over $1 million), and first in the WPT World Poker Challenge in Reno, an extraordinary run of results that helped him to win the title of “World Poker Tour’s Player of the Year” for season 5, joining former winners Howard Lederer, Erick Lindgren, Daniel Negreanu, and Gavin Smith.

The title could have no more deserving winner. Tran is not just an incredibly talented poker player, he is also a man truly dedicated to achieving greatness in the game, and his win in Reno was the culmination of years of hard work and devotion. He ranks it as his best greatest moment in poker, despite having won more in other tournaments.

Tran is also currently in line for another title, the one coveted by tournament players above all else – CardPlayer’s Player of the Year title. His flying start to 2007 has put him way ahead of the chasing pack, and you won’t find too many people willing to bet against him holding on to the end of 2007. Good luck to him!
