JC Tran moves further ahead at top of the Player of the Year race

It’s official. J.C. Tran is on fire – poker wise that is. The form player in the world hiked his 2007 tournament earnings up to a staggering $2,282,613 yesterday with a $272,320 win in Event #4 at the World Poker Classic, and moved further clear at the top of the Player of the Year leaderboard in the process.

Tran’s second win of the year and his fourth final table in four months takes his CardPlayer Player of the Year points tally to 4360, putting him well out in front with his nearest challenger, James Van Alstyne, stuck on 2848.

So far this year Tran has amassed a truly extraordinary three WPT final tables; resulting in a sixth place finish in the World Poker Open, an agonising second in the La Poker Classic, and a triumphant first in the World Poker Challenge.

Nor is Tran’s form restricted to 2007; he ended 2006 with a November win in the World Poker Finals for $312,388, followed by a December win in the Five Diamond World Poker Classic for $266,820. That means Tran’s incredible winning streak stretches back for over five months, and surely constitutes one of the greatest tournament runs in the history of the game. It also makes him one of the most fancied runners for the upcoming WPT World Championship event.
