Online Poker: PartyPoker adds 50% to guarantee and clears it

There was yet another sign of PartyPoker’s changing fortunes last weekend when it upped Sunday’s guaranteed prize pool from $150,000 to $300,000, and promptly cleared the new guarantee without difficulty.

A massive upsurge in player numbers of the last few weeks has put PartyPoker firmly back amongst the big boys, and allowed it to up the prize pool by 50 percent last weekend. When 1,575 players showed up for action the new guarantee cleared with cash to spare.

First place worked out to $63,000 and went to the dubiously named “TheWomanizer”, from Denmark. The last few hands were high octane stuff, with TheWomanizer first facing off against “Bigbang5”, with both players getting all their chips in before the flop. It was a classic race, with TheWomanizer’s 2-2 against Bigbang5’s A-K. The board came 2-Q-Q-A-K giving TheWomanizer a winning full house.

Just moments later and TheWomanizer tried another steal and this time found a stubborn “E_Dollars” making a dubious call with 3-3. They say you should never call off your chips with a low pair, and E-Dollars found out why when the board came 7-Q-8-4-A, helping TheWomanizer’s lowly 5-4 make a pair of fours to win the tournament. E_Dollars collected $34,650 for second place.
