Bodog drops Jamie Gold sponsorship
Jamie Gold, the current WSOP champion, has been dropped by Bodog just six months after winning the biggest poker tournament in history.
However, despite speculation to the contrary, the reason for the termination of their endorsement relationship has nothing to do with the Bruce Leyser lawsuit or Jamie Gold’s perceived lack of popularity among grassroots poker fans, at least according to the statement released by Bodog yesterday. Instead Bodog cited its decision to terminate all non-internet based advertising as the reason behind Gold being dropped.
The statement read: “In light of our decision to cease all offline marketing initiatives in the U.S., and instead refocus our efforts on growing our entertainment brand in Europe and Asia, Bodog has ended our business relationship with Jamie Gold. Bodog has enjoyed our association with Mr. Gold and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
Strange then that Bodog have retained their sponsorship of Josh Arieh, David Williams and Evelyn Ng. The decision means that Jamie Gold is now the only WSOP main-event champion in the new millennium not to have a sponsorship deal, and that includes Robert Varkoyni.
