Big names pitch up for High Stakes Poker season 3
Possibly the most anticipated poker show of recent years, Season 3 of GSN’s High Stakes Poker, will hit American television screens soon and it is likely to prove a huge success.
A host of new names have been drafted in to replace the likes of Doyle Brunson and Barry Greenstein, with the likes of 2006 WSOP champion Jamie Gold sitting down for their shot at the biggest cash game on TV.
The format of HSP, in case you didn’t know, is No Limit Texas Hold’em with a minimum $100,000 buy-in. The blinds are $300-$600 with a $100 rolling ante and there is no upper limit to the amount players can bring to the table (in season one Daniel Negreanu sat down with $1 million).
Season 3 has a slightly younger look than the previous two seasons, with online (and live) sensation Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey and Paul Wasicka (the runner up in the 2006 WSOP) joining the stars from seasons one and two. In addition commentator Gabe Kaplan will try his hand at the felt.
According to Daniel Negreanu, who spoke about HSP Season 3 in his blog, the new additions have greatly increased the difficulty of the game, with Antonius cited as an especially tricky opponent.
