Sportingbet Chairman Resigns
Peter Dicks, the chairman of Sportingbet who was arrested in New York last week, has resigned from the online gaming giant. The company has accepted his resignation “with great reluctance”.

Mr Dicks has been released on a $50,000 bail by a New York Country Court Judge and allowed to fly home to England after the judge was assured that Dicks would return to the US on September 28th for the next hearing on the case. It was only after his release that Dicks notified Sportingbet of his intention to step down.

Peter Dicks was arrested on the 7th September at JFK International airport in New York on a Louisiana warrant concerning Sportingbet’s practice of accepting online bets from US citizens. However since his arrest it has emerged that the chances of Peter Dicks being taken into Louisiana custody are slim. A New York state spokesperson recently said that Louisiana’s extradition request is being delayed while a review of the legal arguments in the case takes place. Specifically the problem for the state of Louisiana rests on the fact that the laws concerning placing bets over state lines are federal laws.

Sportingbet has continued to be bullish about its working practices since the arrest of Dicks, saying it will continues to accept wagers made in the US, thought to make up about 60 percent of its business.
