Shannon Shorr continues extraordinary run
12 months ago mention the name Shannon Shorr to any poker aficionado and you would likely have been met with a blank stare. Not any more. 2006 saw the young American come of legal gambling age and no sooner did he turn 21 before he was turning the poker world upside down.

Shorr cashed in his first live tournament in January 2006 with a fourth place finish in the main-event at the Aussie Millions, a finish worth over $200,000. He then disappeared for five months, before cashing twice in June and then simply exploding in July.

Shorr cashed twice in the 2006 WSOP, finishing 72nd and 46th in two NL Hold’em tournaments, but it was in the Bellagio that he really made his mark. Shorr won the first Bellagio Cup II event he entered, overcoming 435 entries to take home the $126,585 first prize. He then finished 30th and 20th in two other Bellagio Cup II tournaments before the end of July, making a total of five cashes and over $140,000 in the month.

Playing the rush, Shorr then entered the Bellagio Cup II’s $10,000 main-event that took place at the beginning of August, and what do you know, a few days later he had sowed up the title and the $960,690 first prize.

Not wanting to lose momentum Shorr just finished 3rd in the $1500 event at the Borgata Open, cashing for $51,000 and will no doubt be gearing up for the $10,000 WPT main-event that starts tomorrow.

Watch this space to see if he can put the icing on the extraordinary cake that has been his 2006.
