PartyPoker Monster: Week Two - Maria80111 takes top spot as prize pool grows to over $10 million
Week Two of history’s biggest online poker tournament concluded last Saturday when a monstrous 4600 players gathered at PartyPoker’s virtual felt to take a shot at the $100,000 prizepool. While only 7 players were guaranteed a $1000+ payday, a whopping 2000 entrants would receive entry into the monthly $1 million tournament, meaning there was plenty up for grabs.
For many players in the event qualification for the monthly tournament would count as a reasonable success, but for those who went deep in the event the top three position were the real target.
The payout structure of the Monster is incredibly steep, perhaps the steepest structure of any online tournament. With 1000 places paid, $54,000 of the $100,000 up for grabs is earmarked for players finishing between 100th and 1000th, with around $36,000 split between the final nine players.
Finish in 11th place out of 4600 players and you’ll receive $120. Go six further however and you’ll receive 16 times that amount, with a $2000 payout. Win and you’ll receive 104 times what you’d get if you finished 11th! This means that when the field gets really narrow the pressure becomes intense, as the cost of busting out becomes severe.
With nine players left that pressure was shouldered by bubble41, letsply25, maria80111, MoJiMoJi79, rdc45, stankon, twinsouls888, WINSTON412 and yevinyepr.
It was letsply25 who finished in an excruciating ninth place, picking up just $500 for defeating over 4590 players during some 8 hours of play. He was followed by MoJiMoJi79 who will also have been disappointed with a sub-$1000 payday.
After a few more eliminations it was down to maria80111, rdc45 and WINSTON412 to fight it out for $27,500 of prize money. First to fall was WINSTON412, who received $5000 for third. Then maria80111 overcame rdc45 in a heads-up battle to claim the first prize of $12,500.
Here are the final table results and payout:
1st - maria80111 - $12,500
2nd - rdc45 - $10,000
3rd - WINSTON412 - $5000
4th – twinsouls888 - $3000
5th – yevinyepr - $2000
6th – bubble41 - $1500
7th – stankon - $1000
8th – MoJiMoJi79 - $750
9th – letsply25 - $500
