Everyone wants a piece of Gold: World Champ is sued for $6 million
It always seems to go the same way. When someone wins the lottery, the pools, or in this case the World Series of Poker there are always a few people who want a piece of it. Invariably family you never knew existed and friends who haven’t been ‘friends’ for years miraculously appear on your doorstep all eager to take you out to dinner or invite you to use their house in the country. Acts of spontaneous kindness one and all - nothing more. Yea right!

Well for Jamie Gold, the 2006 World Series of Poker champion, the man knocking on his door has come with no such smiling façade. According to the Las Vegas Sun Jamie Gold is being sued for half his $12 million winnings by a man who alleges Gold has reneged on a deal they struck before the WSOP began.

Bruce Crispin Leyser alleges he had a deal with Gold to recruit well known celebrities to play in the WSOP for online poker room Bodog. According to the Sun, Leyser alleges he fulfilled his role of recruiting celebrities for the Main Event and was thus promised half of Gold’s take in tournament as reward for his services. He is now seeking that amount through the courts.

As it happens Leyser is not unknown to the poker world, having worked as an instructor for the World Poker Tour Boot Camp, although his background is as a television producer form the UK.

According to the Sun Leyser claims he has voicemail messages from Jamie Gold confirming the 50/50 deal on the morning of the final table. Certainly the courts are taking the complaint seriously and Chief District Court Judge Kathy Hardcastle issued a restraining order to prevent Harrah’s from paying Jamie Gold his prize money until after the first hearing of the lawsuit, scheduled for September 1st.
