WSOP Update: Event #26 and #27
Two more WSOP champions were crowned yesterday, in the 2 day Pot-Limit Omaha with re-buys tournament and the 2 day Pl Omaha event.

The $1500 PL Omaha with Re-Buys didn’t draw a huge crowd this year, with just 158 entries and only an average of just over two re-buys per player. That meant a relatively small prizepool of $908,100.

The gold bracelet found its way onto the wrist of Eric Froehlich, who won his first WSOP bracelet last year in the $1500 Limit Hold’em tournament. This time he defeated Sherkhan Farnood after an hour of heads-up play. On the winning hand Farnood bet $36k from the button and Froehlich called. The flop came Tc-7h-5c and Farnood bet the pot. Froehlich immediately re-raised the pot and then Farnood moved all-in. Froehlich called and showed Q-7-7-6 for a set of sevens. Farnood had K-K-6-3 and would need to catch a king or a 4 to stay alive. The turn and river were both jacks, and Froehlich had made a full house to win the bracelet. He got $299,675 while Farnood picked up $164,274.

Event #27 was the $1500 Pot Limit Omaha event. That drew a slightly bigger field of 526, but with no re-buys the prizepool was smaller than the previous PL Omaha tourney at just $716,625.

This tournament was won by Rafael Perry, who finished third in the WSOP main event in 2002. On the winning hand, against George Abdallah, Abdallah made it $36 to go which Perry called. The flop was Th-7s-3s and Perry bet $60k. Abdallah raised all-in for $137 more. Perry goes into the tank, and as he thinks Abdallah says “it still leaves you with a lot of chips”. The goad works and Perry calls, showing Kc-Jh-Tc-2h for a pair of tens. Abdallah is happily in front with Qh-Td-4c-3h for two pair. The turn is the 9h giving both players a flush draw, with Abdallah having the higher draw. The river is the 8d.

At this point Abdallah started to celebrate, high fiving his friends for winning such a large pot. Unfortunately he still hasn’t realised how unlucky he has been, and that Perry has hit a jack high straight. Once he does realise however, he goes over to Perry and congratulates him on the victory. Perry won $207,817 for first place, while Abdallah picked up $109,644 for second.
