Antigua asks US to discuss WTO online gambling ruling
Antigua and Barbuda have, for the second time, invited the US government to discuss a WTO ruling on the US’s restrictive stance on Internet gambling.

The two Caribbean nations have taken issue with the US government prohibition of Internet gambling, which they say is damaging their economies.

The WTO has already made one ruling in favour of the islands, when in August 2005 the WTO said the Wire Act, a US law prohibiting gambling across state lines by electronic means (read telephone or internet), was a violation of WTO policy regarding free trade. The organisation gave the US till April 2006 to amend the law, but so far it has refused to make any changes.

In fact rather than making the changes demanded by the WTO, the US government has pressed on with plans to further prohibit Internet gambling.
