Poker machete murderer turns himself in
A man suspected of murdering a fellow poker player with a machete in Indiana in October 2005 is to face charges for the crime after he turned himself in to police in Cleveland.
Yoni Salazar Avilla is to be charged with the murder of Eduardo Sepulveda as well as crime of moving his body from the scene. Avilla allegedly struck Sepulveda several times across the back of the head with a machete after the two had argued during a poker game. He then threatened the other poker players with a similar fate if they spoke about what had occurred.
Avilla then allegedly dumped the body, but police were able to trace the victim’s movements which led them to the murder scene. There they found the bloody machete hidden in the roof and traces of blood on walls, floor and the ceiling.
Avilla had fled to Oklahoma, where he was working as a tile setter before eventually turning himself in to the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office.
