Baywatch babe Carmen Electra jumps on the poker fundraiser bandwagon
Ten years ago the idea of Baywatch babe hosting a charity poker tournament would have been laughed out of town; it is testament to poker’s rapid evolution that Carmen Electra’s recent poker fundraiser raised no eyebrows, being just the latest of many such events.

Poker’s place in society has changed beyond recognition – it is now regarded as ‘the’ pastime for the cool, rich and famous to partake in. Poker’s best players are rapidly becoming world famous stars, and desirable guests at flashy Hollywood parties.

It is good then that poker’s new status is being used for the benefit of those outside its confines as well as those within its inner circle, and charity poker tournaments have proved a huge success.

Carmen Electra’s recent charity poker tournament was a fine example: held at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino the benefit, for brain tumor survivors, was crammed with poker pros and fellow celebrities all keen to do what they could to help.

The event raised almost $100,000 which will go to Head to Hollywood, the charity set up by Electra, whose mother died from a brain tumor, and Ken Baker, a brain tumor survivor himself.
