PokerStars reaches the 5 billion mark
PokerStars announced yet another landmark achievement this week as it passed 5 billion real-money hands dealt on its online poker tables. To celebrate they decided to give away some cash.
The hype surrounding the 5 billionth hand had been going on for sometime at PokerStars, not least because the poker room was promising some very generous giveaways.
PokerStars had decided to give each player involved in the seminal hand a minimum $10,000, with the winner receiving a $50,000 prize. Each player would also receive an entry into the 2006 World Championship of Online Poker.
Imagine the hysteria then, when the 5 billionth hand was dealt not on a high stakes table, but on a $0.05/$0.10 limit table. With bankrolls most probably still in double figures, the players must have been in a state of shock when they realised what they’d won.
In the end “MaraJade” took down the vital pot, securing a $57,500 payout, while "johnny79", "wendingo", kiwishyla", "SantaChris", and "vball5" would have been not too disappointed with their $10,000 consolation prizes.
