GSN’s High Stakes Poker returns in June
One of the most popular poker television series is set to make a return to your television screens this June, GSN announced recently.
High Stakes Poker, which features the intriguing world of big money cash games, rather than the tournament poker usually seen on television, proved an immediate hit when it first aired last year.
Many of poker’s biggest stars turned up to play, putting a minimum of $100,000 of their own money on the table. Regulars from ‘The Big Game’ (the notorious high stakes Vegas cash game) including Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan and Barry Greenstein were joined by players such as Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth and Sam Farha and the result was captivating.
In many ways High Stake Poker is the most realistic televised interpretation of what really goes on in the poker world. Any poker pro will tell you that the real money is in cash games, not tournaments. Sure, a big tournament win can be worth a million dollars or more, but they tend to be rare events, even for the best players, and the cash tables are where they really earn their keep.
The upcoming second season of High Stakes Poker takes place in The Palms Casino, and was filmed in the weeks after the WPT Championship in May this year. Many of the old guard from Season One return, but they are joined by a wealth of famous newcomers. Many of them are well known from their successes on the WPT, such as Phil Laak, Mike Matusow, Michael Mizrachi, Erick Lindgren, John Juanda, and Gus Hansen. Others may be less famous, but no less competitive.
The first show will air on GSN on June 5th at 9pm, and the series will run for 16 weeks.
